Job Description:

General Summary:

Will be responsible for Structural engineering design review and analysis assignments normally involving a major project or several smaller or less complex projects. These projects by nature of their complexity and difficulty require the fully competent application of conventional knowledge in a particular field of engineering or science. Will develop a thorough understanding of policies, methods and procedures through broader and more technically challenging work assignments,

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (PDR)
1. Performs detailed engineering review of plans, as assigned, for compliance with applicable Rules, Regulations and contract commitments.
2. Prepares technical manuals according to applicable Rules, Regulations and Contract Commitments.
3. Perform advanced structural strength analyses, particularly with the finite element analysis method.
4. Proposes technical advice to field operations and other technical offices.
5. Performs work which involves conventional engineering practices but may include moderately complex problems such as the resolution of conflicting design requirements, material standards or coordination of activities among other disciplines.
6. Proposes new approaches to problems encountered and makes recommendations for changes in methods, procedures or designs.
7. Drafts technically accurate and timely reports, and responses to letters, faxes and other forms of communication.
8. Works directly with clients to identify and resolve problems in the area of technical expertise.
9. Prepares accurate and timely weekly reports and billing on all work performed.
10. Communicates the status of the current workload to all appropriate members of the team to insure the needs of the clients will be met.
11. Implements and maintains ABS Quality System requirements relative to responsibilities after undergoing ABS Quality System training.
12. May serve in a capacity as Inspector and organize in-service inspections on the offshore platforms.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required (KSAR)
1. A Bachelor's degree or recognized equivalent in structural, marine, ocean engineering, civil engineering, or naval architecture is preferred and a minimum of 2 or 3 year work experience; or an equivalent combination of advanced education and work experience after graduation is also preferred.
2. Working knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, statutory regulations and related instructions, as well as the ABS Employee Safety Policy.
3. Knowledge of offshore structures required.
4. Knowledge of the structural reliability a plus.
5. Ability to identify, analyze and propose solutions to problems.
6. Ability to proficiently perform the finite element analysis for the complex structures.
7. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
8. Ability to work well with others.
