Overview:
The primary objectives of the product design manager are: 1) to convert customer business problems and use cases into detailed product requirements in order for R&D to be able to accurately build high-impact products and features; and 2) to create and deliver various technical materials, primarily targeted at Business Consulting, Customer Support, Training and Services, to ensure overall company readiness for product releases.


 


Based on detailed working knowledge of how users do their jobs, the product design manager works closely with customers and R&D to maximize product value through effective design and documentation (functional/business value, usability, installability, manageability, guided help, etc.).  The product design manager is a key interface between customers, product management, R&D, and other technical groups with AspenTech.



 
Responsibilities:
Interfaces between customers, Product Management and R&D during product planning and design phase to create product requirements documents from business and product requirements
Works with customers to create business process flow diagrams, user scenarios and usage storyboards as the basis for designing new products and features including, where appropriate, interfaces to third party systems
Presents product ideas and designs to users to garner feedback
Works with customers, Product Management and R&D to design user interfaces
Augments QA test cases with the user perspective to verify features produce results as designed
Performs and documents user-level testing to ensure all product functions work as designed
Reviews and approves user/product/install/upgrade test plans and testing and product documentation
Acts as primary feedback liaison with customers for pre-release alpha and beta programs
Develops and delivers technical sales, professional services, customer support and customer training materials and assists with rollout activities
Delivers detailed competitive analysis for products
As product expert, provides secondary support to technical sales Business Consultants and professional services
Develops product demonstrations to be used by the fields sales teams
Develops and delivers technical content for UGM sessions, customer advisory boards, white papers, etc.


 
Qualifications:
5+ years experience in designing and delivering technical software products including demonstrated first-hand experience working with customers, users, R&D and Product Management
Experience in software and product design, user interface design, storyboarding, focus groups, product requirements documentation, product requirements gathering
Knowledge of batch and batch record system solution (ideally AeBRS/Batch.21)
Knowledge of real-time databases/data historians, integration technology, user interface technology
Knowledge of batch-related process industries, workflows, and business related key process indicators (specialty chemical, pharmaceutical)
Deep knowledge of Order Execution product, process and/or market area; minimum 3 years intensive experience highly desirable
Experience in tangential areas such as technical service delivery, technical sales, R&D a plus
Analytical and detail-oriented with strong writing skills and ability to articulate complex ideas and designs in a simple and understandable manner
BA/BS or higher formal education in appropriate discipline
